RUM HOUSE
In the Edison Hotel
228 West 47th Street
New York, NY
The old Times Square watering hole, located in the Edison Hotel at 228 West 47th Street, had closed back in September after a 37-year run, but re-opened today with a refreshed look and a new bar list. In addition to the usual classics, the Rum House now is offering such original as The Murray (a version of The Grasshopper made with Godiva, Branca Menta and organic cream), The Barrymore (Bruichladdich Single Malt, Ramazotti, yellow chartreuse), The Cohan (Johnny Drum, Cocchi Americano, orange juice, egg white, Angostura bitters) and the Diego Rivera (Chinaco Blanco Tequila, Meletti, Bonal Gentiane, fresh lime juice). The establishment now is operated by Michael Neff, Kenneth McCoy and Abdul Tabini, the same folks who have Ward III, the Tribeca spot at 111 Reade Street and West Broadway. Although they’ve cleaned up the Rum House, they haven’t messed much with its oldtimey nautical ambiance.
