Art-and-wine project for the Hudson Valley

08 May

The publishers of Hudson Valley Wine Magazine this week announced plans for “A Year-long Celebration of Art & Wine in the Hudson Valley.”

The project will pair Hudson Valley artists with Hudson Valley wineries and vineyards. A juried selection of 35 professional artists will be invited to create in their chosen medium a wine- or vineyard-inspired artwork by pairing with a specific winery.

Their art will be featured throughout the year in various promotions and events, and will be featured at a Grand Art & Wine event to be held in Westchester County in May 2011 at Lyndhurst, a National Trust Historic Site.

The exhibit then will travel to four art galleries in the Hudson Valley, so far including M Gallery in Catskill and Hudson Valley Gallery in Cornwall.

“The goal of this very timely year-long celebration is to enhance the Hudson Valley’s recognition as a destination for art, wine and cultural experiences,” said Linda Pierro, managing editor of Hudson Valley Wine Magazine. “We will be promoting Hudson Valley artists, wineries, galleries, and historic sites specifically to Metro-New York travel and culinary writers, art critics, event planners, and travel and tourism professionals.

The 2011 spring issue of the magazine will serve as the exhibition catalog for the Grand Event, and will feature articles and additional information regarding the year-long celebration.

“We invite our cultural institutions, tourism agencies, art councils, museums and historical sites to participate in the promotion by sponsoring an artist’s page in the spring exhibition issue, or by sponsoring an intimate winery/artist event,” Pierro said.
