Historical society wine fundraiser next week

19 Jun

ALBANY, NY — I always enjoy offbeat settings for wine and cheese parties, so this one caught my eye.

A “Beginning of Summer Wine and Cheese Mixer” to benefit the Albany County Historical Association (ACHA) will be held amid some pretty fancy plumbing supplies and fixtures. The venue: The Security Plumbing Supply showroom at 475 Central Avenue, Albany. The time and place: 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 22.

The event is sponsored by Security Plumbing Supply along with Honest Weight Food Co-op and Capital Wine and Liquor. Attendees will be treated to wines, cheeses and hor d’oeuves, and be able to participate in a “historic” scavenger hunt, identifying Albany County historic places and structures, with prizes awarded.

Admission is $25 per person, limited to those 21 and older. Proceeds will benefit the ACHA and its mission to preserve and utilize the Ten Broeck Mansion for educational programming.

(Full disclosure: I’m a past president and past board member of the ACHA. I’m also a recent customer of Security Plumbing Supply, for what that’s worth.)
