‘Christmas In July’ at Columbia County winery

07 Jul

GHENT, NY — Temperatures in the 90s, lawns turning brown in the heat, dire warnings about sunstroke. It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas.

Well, it will be during “Christmas In July” at the Hudson-Chatham Winery this Saturday. Owners Carlo and Dominique DeVito plan on playing holiday music, offering Christmas cookies and artisanal cheeses, and providing tastings of their wines for potential Christmas  presents. The event will run from noon to 5 p.m.

The DeVitos specialize in small, hand-made batches of wine. In addition to creating artisanal wines, they have been restoring the winery’s grounds and its circa 1780 farmhouse. The winery features hand-crafted wines, cheeses and desserts, and includes vineyard tours and a gazebo with scenic views. The winery is located at 1900 Route 656 (Union Pike), roughly midway between Chatham and Hudson in Ghent, Columbia County. Phone: (518) 392-9463.
