NY wine and food pairings? There’s an app for that

10 Aug

iPhone users seem to have an insatiable demand for new applications, or apps as they prefer to call them. So, it is no surprise there is a new free app they can download to help them pair up New York-produced wines and foods.

The New York Wine & Grape Foundation in Canandaigua worked with the Apple team to create the app which allows users to either select a specific varietal (Riesling, Merlot, Catawba, etc.) to find a list of appropriate food pairings, or choose a food type (pasta, beef, cheese, etc.) and get a selection of compatible wines.

The app, says NYSW&GF President Jim Trezise, “is a spinoff of our New York’s Great Grapes varietal series describing the grapes, wine tastes, and food affinities for the 18 most common varietal wines in New York. The series was designed by Book Marshall with photography by Randy Tagg, and is available for free as a downloadable collection of point-of-sale materials on our website. We encourage wineries, wholesalers and retailers to make use of them.”

The iPhone app was developed by Mason Selkowitz Marketing for the Foundation. To obtain it, says Trezise, “go to the Apple Store, search for NY Wine, click on the app called NY Wine & Food Pairings, and either preview it or download it.”
