State drops a notch in milk ratings

31 Aug

California and Wisconsin continue to rank 1-2 in milk production, but New York has dropped out of the top three.

Idaho’s dairy industry increased milk production by 5.3% in July, moving it into the No. 3 spot and dropping New York to No. 4. That is according to figures released today by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

New York State dairy farmers produced 1.1 billion pounds of milk in July compared to Idaho’s 1.12 billion. The two states frequently swap the 3-4 rankings while California and Wisconsin maintain the top spots on a virtually permanent basis.
