THE LAMBS CLUB
132 West 44th Street, between 6th and Broadway
Fans of mid-20th Century American show biz have heard the name of this place many times, primarily because it was THE hangout for all sorts of celebrities who belonged to its namesake group, the country’s first professional theatrical club, founded in 1874.
This is the restored version, in the original Midtown West spot, and tonight it debuts its dinner service. The place has been serving breakfast, lunch and drinks.
It is a cushy Art Deco-inspired space, designed by Thierry Despont, where chrome, torch-style lighting fixtures and red leather abound, and the 60-seat mezzanine bar has portraits of famous Lambs Club members of the past even though the 80-seat restaurant emphasizes that it is not affiliated with the still-existing private club.
Sasha Petraske’s drink menu contains some classically-inspired treats. Among them:
GOLD RUSH — Bourbon, lemon, honey
SOUTHSIDE — Gin, lime juice, sugar, mint
OLD FASIONED — Bourbon, sugar, bitters, orange peel
CHERRY FIX — Vodka or rum, fresh cherries, lemon, crushed Ice
ST. HILAIRE — Cava, St. Germain Elderflower Liqueur
