Scottish vodka claims ‘world’s strongest’ title

07 Sep

For what it’s worth, there is a new “strongest vodka in the world” being claimed.

It’s the Scottish brand Pincer, which normally creates its product at 38% alcohol by volume (76 proof). However, it has come out with something called Pincer Shanghai Strength for the Chinese market. It weighs in at 88.8% ABV, or 177.6 proof. That tops the previous record for the strongest commercial vodka, the 80% (160 proof) Balkan 176 brand. It is priced at US$130 for the 750ml bottle, all done up in black and gold.

It may be a rare find in any bars in New York State, but many of the trendier spots do carry the regular Pincer, made of grain and Scottish mountain water with botanical extracts of milk thistle and wild elderflower.
