No vegetarians need sail for Pig Island

GOVERNORS ISLAND, NY — A 20-chef extravaganza featuring all things pork — along with New York State wines and Six Point craft ales — will be the order of the day on Saturday, October 2, wheb the Pig Island culinary festival takes over the neighborhood.

All culinary participants will work with locally-sourced ingredients, including whole pigs purchased directly from such farms as Violet Hill Farm and The Piggery. Among the chefs will be Sara Jenkins of Porchetta, Jacques Gautier of Palo Santo, TV’s “Chopped” champion Michael Jenkins of Butter Restaurant and such barbecue masters as Hoppin’ John Taylor of Low Country cooking fame and Sam Barbieri with the award-winning Fuhgeddaboutit BBQ Team.

Tickets holders will have access to the exclusive ticketed area inside the shady courtyard of Colonels Row. Tickets allow visitors to enjoy unlimited, walk-around tastings.

Sixpoint Craft Ales will be serving a limited-release Pilsner, a seasonal Pumpkin Saison, and its popular Signal, a lightly smoked pale ale. Tasting dishes will include smoked pork, low country and competition style barbeque, porchetta sandwiches, Vietnamese pork soup, Brunswick stew, and maple bacon sticky buns.

The event, set for 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., will include a public area with beer, soft drinks and snacks available for purchase. A charitable donation will be made to the Food Systems Network NYC. Tickets are non-refundable.
