WADING RIVER, NY — Long Island is known for, among other things, its ducks. A local liquor store henceforth will be known for its reptile.
The owner and an employee of Alpine Wines and Liquors were issued tickets for possession of an illegal animal, namely a yard-long alligator. They had been keeping it, they said, for its owner who was in the process of looking for an apartment. According to the Associated Press, the owner said she thought the animal was a monitor lizard, not a gator.
Should anyone else mistake one reptile for another …
THIS is a monitor lizard …
… and, THIS is an alligator.
So easy to make that mistake … if you spend your days in a liquor store.
