NEW YORK — South American wines are steadily gaining favor with American consumers. The marketing organization Wines of Argentina hopes to rev up the action even more with a huge tasting event on Tuesday, October 19.
For $45 a head, attendees will be able to choose from among 700 wines produced by 104 Argentine wineries. I doubt any but the sturdiest of travelers could cover enough ground on an in-person visit to Argentina to be confronted with that number of possibilities.
The geographic sources will range from Salta to Patagonia, and feature the aromatic Torrentes and robust Malbecs. To help set the mood, the Argentine band Bajofondo will provide live music.
The venue will be The Altman Building at 135 West 18th Street in Manhattan.
