CANANDAIGUA, NY — One of the problems with many of the state’s best wines, as deemed by judges at the annual New York Wine & Food Classic, is that they are in such short supply few consumers get to experience them.
That situation has been alleviated a bit this year, the first time the New York Wine & Culinary Center located here has been able to source all five “Best of Category” winners, including the Governor’s Cup wine, for an historic tasting flight. They’re being offered to visitors throughout the month. In addition, numerous other state-sourced wines that earned Double Gold, Gold, and Best of Class honors in this year’s competition also are available for sampling and purchase.
The Riesling Cuvee from Swedish Hill Winery, located near Romulus on the west bank of Caygua Lake, won the Governor’s Cup trophy in August, the top individual award. It surpassed 850 other entries. It also won “Best Vinifera Sparkling” and “Best Overall Sparkling” en route to the top award.
