20 Oct

CLERMONT, NY — The state’s newest winery opened its doors to the public over the weekend.

Tousey Winery, located at 1774 Route 9 in southern Columbia County, is open to visitors on Saturdays and Sundays from noon to 5 p.m. Phone: (518) 567-5462.

Founder Ray Tousey is a farmer and beekeeper who has more than 250 hives from which he collects the raw materials to create soaps, candles, honey and other products he sells at farm markets in Columbia and Dutchess counties.

The winemaker is Bruce Tripp and the winery manager is Ben Peacock. Tousey is making his wines available at the Rhinebeck Farmer’s Market and the Kingston Farmer’s Market. He plans to open a tasting room at the winery next spring.

Tousey Winery has become the seventh member of the Hudson-Berkshire Beverage Trail that stretches between New York and Massachusetts.
