• Free smartphone app for LI Wine Country

24 Oct

SOUTHHOLD, Long Island, NY — The Long Island Wine Council has released a free “Long Island Wine Country” application for iPhone, Blackberry and Android smartphones.

The marketing organization says the app allows users to find wineries and plan routes via a map feature with GPS technology. It was designed and produced by Cro2 Design, of Southold, in conjunction with Discover Anywhere Mobile. No surprise, since Michael Croteau, Cro2 Design’s owner, also is co-owner of Croteaux Vineyards in Southold and a board member of the Long Island Wine Council.

Details of each of the 47 member wineries are included. The app also offers dining and lodging information in the area, a calendar of winery events, and sections to allow users to store their favorite bits of info, as well as connections to Twitter, FaceBook and Flickr.

The Council already is issuing an app update next week to debug some problems with the original. You can download the app here.
