If you’re beginning your search for wines for the holiday season, you may want to pay attention to New York State products ranked highly by the Beverage Testing Institute (BTI).

The BTI, which samples all categories of beverages, uses a dedicated tasting lab in Chicago. It says the room was specially designed “to minimize external factors and maximize our panelists’ concentration. Tasting at the same time of day practically every weekday morning, under the same ideal conditions, is far better than working out of a suitcase or at a producer’s facility.”

Here’s a rundown by category of New York wines cited so far this year, with their score and comments from the BTI tasters:

2010 Special Award Winners

93 • Glenora 2009 Riesling, Finger Lakes $15.99. Best Buy. Apple, grapefruit and nectarine aromas with a juicy fruity light-to-medium body and a long tangerine and mineral finish. Fantastic.
