• Sneak preview for newest NYS winery

18 Dec

BURT, NY — New York State’s 303rd, or so, winery is scheduled to open next month on the shores of Lake Ontario.

Black Willow Winery, which already is in “soft opening” mode, is owned by Cynthia West-Chamberlain and Michael Chamberlain who didn’t want to miss the holiday wine shopping season by being sticklers about an opening date. The official grand opening is scheduled for Friday, January 28.

Black Willow already is a member of the Niagara Wine Trail and worked along with other members to raise $7,000 for area food banks this season as well as donating 15 boxes of non-perishable foods.

The winery is located on 43 acres along West Lake Road in Burt, on the south shore of the lake. Not a bad location for visitors and tourists since West Lake Road is part ofthe Great Lakes Seaway Trail which reaches from Messina in the east, along the St. Lawrence River, curves around the southern shore of Lake Ontario, along the Niagara River and by the eastern shores of Lake Erie, and on to Pennsylvania.

The Chamberlains currently produce five wines:

• Black Willow Trilogy Red, a dry blend.
• Black Willow Trilogy White, a delicate blend of whites.
• Bare Cat Blush, a semi-sweet blush.
• Chardonnay
• Cabernet Franc
