• ‘Riesling Month’ coming, a month early

18 Mar

Finger Lakes Wine Country usually celebrates its signature Riesling wines throughout May. This year, the industry advocacy group is getting a jump on the month by starting it on April 1, no fooling.

The push to attract visitors to what the locals refer to as the “Riesling Road” will include special tastings and other events at individual wineries, restaurant specials, and lodging packages in conjunction with numerous B&Bs, inns and hotels. (Lots of details available here.)

Riesling is the region’s most widely planted Vinifera variety, with almost 1,000 acres under cultivation for that grape alone. The microclimate condition and the slate soils are conducive to producing high-quality grapes, and the increasing global recognition of the region as having the right combination of terroir and winemaking.

You also can keep up with the activities by regularly checking out my NYS Drinks Events Calendar.
