• Upstate winery renews on-site pizzeria

SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY — The Saratoga Winery & Tasting Room will have its own on-site pizzeria again this summer.

Orapello’s Wood Fired Pizza is a portable operation owned by Joe Orapello Jr. and his wife, Kim, and boasts a 900° oven on a custom-built trailer.

Says Orapello, “Growing up in Upstate New York as part of a large Italian family, food has always played a central role in my life. My mother taught me that even the most basic of ingredients, when carefully selected for quality and flavor, could produce amazing results.”

Those ingredients are a crust made with imported Italian flour, spring water, Sicilian sea salt and a natural leavening process. The toppings include San Marzano tomatoes, fresh mozzarella cheese, garlic, fresh basil and oregano.

The winery, owned by Rich and Tara Nimmo, is located at 462 Route 29 (Washington Street), about three miles from downtown Saratoga Springs. Pizzas will be available there from 6 to 9 p.m. Fridays beginning this week. The 10-inch pies take about two minutes to make and prices begin at $7.
