BINGHAMTON, NY — Nobody questions whether Binghamton University students and others are going to drink during this year’s annual Bar Crawl.
City and university officials, along with downtown bar owners, say they are looking to avoid problems on May 19, the next to last day of classes, when as many as 1,000 college students come downtown to celebrate the end of the spring semester, going from bar to bar downtown.
This year’s bar crawl — centered around the bars on State Street, which will be closed off to traffic beginning at 4:30 p.m. May 19 — comes at a time when owners of one popular student hangout, The Rathskeller, are facing having their liquor license revoked or canceled after a series of problems with under-age drinking.
