• Finger Lakes grapery adds Brew & Brats dining

09 Jul

BRISTOL SPRINGS — The Finger Lakes is a popular, easy summer destination for many New Yorkers. However, some of the less-publicized stops along the way are hidden gems.

Take the Arbor Hill Grapery, located at the southern end of Canandaigua Lake. The name may make it difficult to categorize for some people. Owners John and Katie Brahm (right) like it that way.

In addition to grape wines, they have long had a reputation for all things grape — grape juice, Concord grape pie filling, vinifera-based grape jellies such as Gewurztraminer, gourmet sauces, and so on.

It adds up to 21 different wines, and 47 food products, many of them winners of prestigious food show honors.

Where can the Brahms go from here? Not far. They have just opened an old carriage house behind their retail shop as Brew & Brats, a restaurant offering craft beers and featuring a specialty sausage made with Arbor Hill Sherried Wine BBQ Sauce. Other sausage selections are from Hartmann’s Sausage of Canandaigua. Prices are attractive: Bratwursts are $5.50 each, beers $4 for a 12-ounce glass, and wines between $3 to $5 a glass. You can access the menu online.

The Arbor Hill Grapery is located at 6461 Route 64, just north of the village of Naples. Phone: (800) 554-7553 or (585) 374-2870.
