• Cocktail of the week: Barrel Aged Ginger-Rum Cocktail

23 Jul

This is the latest entry in a new every-Saturday feature being carried on three of my sites — Cocktail of the Week, Dowd On Drinks, and, of course, here on Drinking New York. I’ll be combing through all sorts of sources — my own archives, old bar books, readers’ suggestions, distillers’ ideas — even press releases from breathless PR people seeking to get their clients’ products mentioned. If you have a favorite, don’t hesitate to ask.

This new, unique cocktail is being served at the Library Bar & Private Park at the Hudson Hotel in New York City.

The bartenders there recommend this one be imbibed outdoors, perfect for combating the summer heat. Incidentally, they’re charging $16 per.

2 parts Pyrat XO Rum
1 part Domaine de Canton Ginger Liqueur
1 part sweet vermouth
Dash of Angostura bitters
Lemon rind for garnish

Combine all ingredients in a shaker. Shake vigorously and pour into a chilled cocktail glass. Add garnish and serve.

Check out my New York Drinks Events Calendar, the most comprehensive you’ll find anywhere.
